Masters of Fine Arts (Fine Arts and Illustration), Academy of Art University, San Francisco
Bachelors of Arts (Honors) (Fine Arts and Illustration), University of Wolverhampton, England
Biography:
The paintings of Chris Dennis have been described as internalized portraiture or narrative expressionism. The strangeness yet immediacy of the imagery draw on the viewer's preconceptions and invite them to create their own narrative. His work depicts human behavior in terms of the characteristics and behaviors of animals. The figures with the head of a fish or bird are often static, caught in the moment, before or after an event.
Dennis has exhibited and is collected across the United States and Europe. In 2007, he was invited by the American Labor Federation to submit a painting for inclusion in its 2007 calendar. His Painting, "A Bird's Heart", is featured on the 2008 album by California singer/songwriter Joni Davis and Volume Three of Studio Visit from the publishers of New American Paintings.
This year will see his inclusion in Colour-works, a soon-to-be published art textbook by Harry N. Abrams, Inc.
