Biography:
Diane Hanson's paintings take fragmented pieces of remembered events and places and create nonlinear narratives that revolve around one idea or place. Her work is a reflection on rural America and is influenced by the relationship between rural and urban communities, the development of ethanol and GMO and misconceptions and stereotypes of rural living mixed in with her own experience of being raised on a farm.

Hanson has received several awards including a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, Fulbright Grant (Miguel Viciguerra Grant), a Travel Grant to Italy, Artist Assistance Fellowship Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, Leo Chestler Contemporary Visual Arts Award, a full fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center, and a residency at the Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. Hanson was a juried artist at the ArtCenter South Florida in Miami Beach from 2004-2006.
