NIKOLE COONEY

EAST PEORIA, ILLINOIS

Nikole Cooney's work explores themes of rekindling connections with nature and an appreciation for wildlife through surreal, fantastic, narrative sculptures. Some images have layers of meaning which parallel the human condition in an anthropomorphic language. Additionally, every sculpture has one or more elements that can be found in adjacent pieces thereby representing our relation to each other and our environment. In her work, she speaks of the ephemeral and resilient qualities of both man and nature.

'Working with materials such as wood, found and recycled objects, paper and paper clay help to reinforce my own connection with nature in a very tangible way.' Once each piece has been constructed they are sealed, then painted with oil or acrylic paint to bring them to life.

BEAST OF MERCY

MIXED MEDIUM, 1.5 FT. X 1.5 FT. X 2 FT., 2016

This sculpture is about embracing and nurturing the gift of the next generation. It also speaks of reconnecting with the quiet calm of nature. The candles symbolically light the path for the reconciling between man and nature.
