Carly Bodnar has long found inspiration in flesh. Her most recent work addresses the experience of moving through the world in a female body. From exhortations to smile to the bombardment of advertising imagery, modern women are simultaneously glorified, objectified, and vilified. Contemporary femaleness is thick with conflicting expectations. Pulling from this experience, Bodnar fragments, warps, and reassembles the body into forms featuring familiar fragments yet which express a psychologically tumultuous landscape.
