"My figurative art explores themes of internal struggles of pain, delirium, and optimism under siege. My inspiration is mainly derived from my lifetime battle with migraines – pain invisible to anyone outside my own orb. The auras and hallucinations inform how I approach each subject. I like painting double images to add unease infused with a wanting to put things back in focus, walking a line of the need to withdraw but fighting for a semblance of sanity and connection. Most of the portraits I paint, are inspired by people I know who also suffer from migraines. However, the resulting images are meant to connect with anyone suffering profound pain invisible to others." - Karen Hydendahl
