Join us on Today, September 8 (4 p.m.) when artists Dawn Black, Danielle Burns, and Kathryn Hunter give you a peek-behind-the-curtain look at their work with the stories and inspirations that led to their creation. Each artist will touch on the techniques, the processes, and the thinking that went into their latest works.

We're happy to announce that this month's ARTiculate will also be presented with ASL Interpreting, provided by our friends at Deaf Focus!

Thank you to everyone who made it for Kids Night, our grand finale for the 21st season of Movies & Music on the Lawn, presented by @popshoprecords! From the Mad Hatter’s (Iced) Tea Party with @knockknockchildrensmuseum all the way to the final note of the original score performed by the students of @br_musicstudios for Alice in Wonderland (1915), it was INCREDIBLE!

On view now in the gallery, "Marked" by Mary Jane Parker

Mary Jane Parker explores the physical history that is recorded on ones body from birth through scrapes and cuts acquired along the journey of life. She is interested in how memories and relics emerge and how those entwine to form the narratives of times past. For this exhibition, her debut at BRG since being named an artist member, she looks at how inward emotional turmoil manifests and displays outwardly.

Amy James's photographs can only be described as transcendent and natural. She prefers to shoot using only natural light and environments. She shoots primarily in black and white, using silver and film. She was trained as a painter but was drawn to the darkroom upon learning it could create as much of a challenge as the empty canvas. For this exhibition she turns the camera inward and explores her own relationships through time and reflects on expectations and situations that she never expected to experience first-hand.

One week from today we will be hosting our Kid's Night for Movies and Music on the Lawn! Our film feature will be Alice in Wonderland, with musical accompaniment by the kids from Baton Rouge Music Studios, and we will be partnering with Knock Knock Children's Museum to have a mad-hatter themed hat building table for the kids and life sized cardboard chess board! This will be a fun evening for all ages, and we hope to see you there!
