Sundays@4 - Strings & Serenades with Tim Kulage

  • Baton Rouge Gallery 1515 Dalrymple Drive BATON ROUGE United States (map)

On Sunday, July 27th, Baton Rouge Gallery will host musician and singer/songwriter Tim Kulage for a discussion on his history playing music across the United States, his relationship with stringed instraments, and the creative act of writing. As with all Sundays@4 events, this will be free and open to the public.

in his own words:

My hometown is St. Louis. I have lived in Chicago, a small town in Wisconsin, San Antonio, and since 1971, Baton Rouge.

I started playing the guitar in the late 60s when I was in my late teens.  As soon as I could play a few chords, I began to write my songs, most of which are forgotten. From time to time, I find a song at the bottom of a drawer or in a book, or I find myself singing a forgotten melody. Through the years, sometimes with more intensity than others, I have continued to write. There are about 100 songs that I currently play. Some are 50 years old, and some are 5 days old. It is almost a cliché to say this, but each one feels like a gift, and I listen to what comes as much as I ‘compose’.

Some time ago, stringed instruments of all sorts of types and cultural heritage began to inspire me and challenge me. I have so much to learn and explore. The variety of genres that my songs fall in is quite varied. I will be playing songs in various tunings on acoustic guitars, a Portuguese guitar, and an Irish bouzouki. I sing about being alive. Longing, joy, heartbreak, and hope. Sometimes with story lines, sometimes portraits of a moment.  There are more questions to sing about than there are certainties to claim.” - Kulage
