Artist Statement
β€œThe works for this exhibition allowed me to explore the elements of lines, shapes and color in art. My first real interest in becoming an artist was based on the inspiration that I sensed as a child, looking at images of drawings and paintings from impressionism through modern art. I was fascinated by the ways that artists used intense colors and interesting lines and shapes in abstract ways.

Through a grant from the Foundation for Louisiana in its 2021 Louisiana World Makers Award, I was able to go back to my earlier style of abstract painting and work creatively on a larger scale. These works were made by through the process of improvising, from beginning to end. I enjoy beginning like a nonrepresentational artist, with thin layers of colors and shapes across the canvas before exploring abstract pattern and images. While working on a painting, I search for ways to connect the images that are developing as I paint, to a cohesive subject matter or title that I may have been thinking about while working.”

This exhibition is presented alongside the latest works from Kathleen Lemoine, Tom Richard, & Steve Schmidt. All works from these artists are on view, free of charge, during normal gallery hours (12 - 6 p.m., Tue - Sun) from February 1st - 24th.
