heaven and earth

ARTIST STATEMENT

“HEAVEN and EARTH explores spaces where the material world meets the unseen.

The prints, made by directly exposing botanical elements to the sun, record rapid changes in the materials and capture ephemeral suggestions rather than literal depictions. For me, the blue of the cyanotypes conjures associations with the infinite. It becomes a field where earthly forms appear, dissolve and reconfigure - a space where emotion and imagination can take hold.  Gold leaf, a counterpoint to the ephemeral, marks thresholds or passages. Together, the elemental and organic materials explore a dialogue between the transient and the timeless, the tactile and the luminous.

Probing a dialogue between earth and sky, material and spiritual, the images are grounded in the space where seen and unseen meet.” - Kerr
