Movies & Music: 'The Phantom Carriage' & Hartman/Madere/Livingston

  • Baton Rouge Gallery 1515 Dalrymple Drive BATON ROUGE United States (map)

Be here on Saturday, July 20, when BRG's Movies & Music on the Lawn, presented by Pop Shop Records, pairs a trio of composers and veterans of the Baton Rouge music scene and one of the most ambitious films of the silent era to explore the possibilities of special effects, for a great night of sights and sounds under the stars.

Whether you’re looking for a date night that’s a little different or an affordable family outing, you can’t go wrong with Movies & Music on the Lawn. Bottomless popcorn and admission to one of the most unique film series in town costs just $7 (and BRG members pay nothing to enjoy the whole series)!

About The Phantom Carriage: This groundbreaking 1921 film is still looked back on as a pioneer in its advanced-for-the-time use of special effects and its structure, which relies on flashbacks within flashbacks. The plot of the film is taken from Swedish folklore that says the last man to die before the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve is to drive the Phantom Carriage - which collects the spirits of the dead - for the coming year. When David Holm finds himself in the driver’s chair, he learns of the downfalls of the selfish life he led.
