Sundays@4 with Jeremy K. Simien

  • Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary for Art 1515 Dalrymple Drive Baton Rouge, LA, 70808 (map)

Join us at Baton Rouge Gallery for a special Sundays@4 presentation with art collector and historian Jeremy K. Simien in conjunction with Free as they want to be: Artists Committed to Memory.

Bélizaire and the Frey Children, 1837

Simien is an avid art collector who has garnered national attention for bringing new appreciation for and a better understanding of the 1837 work, Bélizaire and the Frey Children, an oil painting attributed to French artist Jacques Amans. The story of Simien’s journey with the work has been chronicled across the globe by outlets such as The New York Times, ArtNet, Hyperallergic, and more.

Join us as Simien shares a story of erasure, racism, and how the images we lean on to facilitate memory can be unreliable at first look.

As with all programming being held in conjunction with Free as they want to be, this event will be open to all with no admission fees.
