“I have always been interested in Nature. Plant materials, landforms, and seasonal color hold a particular fascination for me. I have used the landscape as a motif or theme in various media, including drawing, painting, and stained glass design. Much of this artwork is influenced by light. For over 50 years, I have used the medium of stained glass to manipulate light in different ways. In my new series of oil paintings on canvas, I turned again to light as a concept, with landscape as the subject.
Late afternoons in south Louisiana feature stunning clouds and vibrant sunset hues. While analyzing the vivid colors and drifting clouds, I observed interesting light and shadow patterns on the earth. It is the effect of this elusive light that captured my curiosity and stimulated my imagination. Following the development of a concept, I began creating a series of paintings to illustrate this intriguing phenomenon of Nature.
The latest portfolio of paintings, titled “Illuminated Landscape,” marks a brief moment in time and portrays the interplay between light and shadow on trees, shrubs, and earth, while adding an element of mystery to each scene. The series of paintings was produced within the last year, with each large piece measuring 36 inches by 48 inches, and the smaller ones measuring 20 inches by 24 inches. There are 24 paintings in the series, 17 of which are shown here.” - Corso
This exhibition is presented alongside the latest works from Margaret Humphris and Amy James. All works from these artists are on view, free of charge, during regular gallery hours (12 - 6 p.m., Tue - Sun) from June 3 - 26, 2025.
