Jill's practice is rooted in resourcefulness, as she seeks inspiration from the overlooked abundance of materials, such as cardboard, plastic bottles, and the invasive cat's claw vine (Uncaria tomentosa). Her art serves as an audit of her own consumer habits, using these materials as a reflection on consumption and sustainability. In her studio in Arabi, LA, she aims to create work that engages all five senses, transcending traditional art appreciation.
“Through the methodical deconstruction and reassembly of cardboard, I transform everyday materials into intricately woven artworks that reveal the often overlooked beauty and potential in discarded objects. This body of work, titled Consumer Cloth, reflects my commitment to both artistic innovation and sustainability. These pieces not only embody an environmentally conscious approach, but also serve as a personal audit of my consumption patterns, using the medium to explore and critique the culture of consumerism.” - Stoll
Jill’s roots trace back to her formative years at Interlochen Arts Academy, where under the tutelage of Lina Dean, she first delved into the intricate craft of weaving. These early lessons not only honed her technical abilities but also shaped her philosophical approach to art and design. Currently, Jill serves as a Professor of Practice in Design at Tulane University School of Architecture, where making and problem-solving are her areas of academic research, and she shares her insights with the next generation of creators.
This exhibition is presented alongside the latest works from Rob Lamb Carpenter, David DuBose, and Ross Jahnke. All works from these artists are on view, free of charge, during regular gallery hours (12 - 6 p.m., Tue - Sun) from Aug 29 - Sep 21, 2025.
